President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Aleksa Bečić visited the municipality of Herceg Novi yesterday.
This visit was an opportunity for the President of the Parliament to meet with Municipality President Mr Stevan Katić, vice-presidents Ms Vesna Samardžić and Mr Miloš Konjević, Local Assembly President Mr Nikola Samardžić, as well as with the Chief Administrator Mr Nenad Đorđević.
During his meeting with the Municipality President, President Bečić pointed out special satisfaction with the visit to Herceg Novi, assessing that it was not a distant city, but a jewel of Montenegrin coast, a symbol of Montenegro and our gate to the European Union, towards which we all strongly aspired.
- Herceg Novi has a reliable partner in the Parliament of Montenegro, which, on a healthy bases, wants to work in the interest of citizens together with the local administration, pointed out Mr Bečić.
President Bečić voiced his conviction that the ruling majority would work with the local self-governments to overcome challenges which they were facing.
- I believe that we will finally have a resolved issue of abolishing toll pay on the road Meljine - Petijevići, and that the Government will provide a significant impetus to move towards decentralisation, because this is how we are strengthening the local self-government, we are expanding the scope of original revenues and thus we are supporting the developmental component of municipalities, said the President of the Parliament of Montenegro.
He especially referred to numerous projects of local administration, whose implementation for the most part was not hindered even in the difficult circumstances due to the coronavirus pandemic, with special emphasis on the Daycare Centre building, the adventure park which was the source of pride for Montenegro and the region, as well as the opening of the first municipality-owned hotel. President of the Parliament emphasised his satisfaction with the responsible social policy of the Municipality’s management, reflected in the care for the youngest and the oldest fellow citizens, as well for the youth and athletes, and via the incentive measures for family enlargement.
Thanking President Bečić for his visit, President of Municipality Mr Stevan Katić specified the problems of local self-governments and emphasised that they should work together on improving current legal solutions.
During his meeting with heads of councillors’ groups, President Bečić had the opportunity to learn about the work of the local parliament and the recently adopted decisions.
In an open and constructive conversation, representatives of political parties voiced their views regarding the current social and political developments, as well as the significance of strengthening the role of local parliaments in Montenegro.
President Bečić emphasised that the stability, along with the democratic culture of the government and the opposition that Herceg Novi has always cherished, represented a basis for the development of the local area and the entire Montenegro.
The visit was an opportunity for the President of the Parliament to also tour the location of the first underground parking space and the new square in Herceg Novi, the renewed pavilion of the City Music, as well as the new building of the Daycare Centre for Children with Developmental Disabilities, whose construction is in its final stage.
